Technical Library

The Tech Tips and technical articles span nearly seventy years of 300 SL ownership and Gull Wing Group history. They cover periods when the cars were new and original, heavily driven and repaired in use, later maintained with limited parts and expertise, and ultimately restored to exacting, show-level standards. Written across these eras by many authors, the material reflects differing technical approaches and views on originality, while together forming a concise historical record of both the 300 SL and the Gull Wing Group.

The Tech Tips were created by experts actively restoring and working on 300 SL cars during their time. These tips have been reviewed, re-reviewed, and updated as new information became available. Approximately 180 Tech Tips are currently indexed and numbered with a "TT-" prefix and are considered the highest quality source of information, after the factory publications.

In addition to Tech Tips, technical articles have been published in the 300 StarLetter since its inception. These articles were the responsibility of the author and any reviewers they involved. Some of the best of these have been moved to the Technical Library and denoted with a "TA-" prefix. There is a higher likelihood of errors and omissions in these articles.

300 SL Technical Library

Because many technical articles are not included in the library and are only available in the magazine, there is a 300 StarLetter Technical Index. Those articles can be accessed in paper copies or online under the Media section. The 300 StarLetter Technical Index is included in the main Technical Library and is fully searchable.

Many of the 300 StarLetter Tech Articles have not been reviewed by the Tech Committee. Use caution when drawing conclusions about originality and using technical solutions. Questions about the Tech Articles and Tech Tips can be addressed by the Tech Committee.
